The 2014 Kia Cadenza isn't as sporty as it looks, but that's probably a good thing. In the front-wheel-drive large sedan segment, comfort is a higher priority than performance, and the firmer ride that typically accompanies more athletic handling isn't worth the compromise for most buyers. That's not to say the Cadenza is a softy ? it's shown us a good time on some good roads ? only that it plays in the same comfortable ballpark as its competitors.
Built on the same platform and driven by the same V6 powertrain as the Hyundai Azera, we were surprised by the Cadenza's superior steering and suspension feel. Other highlights include a seamless powertrain that leaves the line smoothly, and a cabin that remains notably quiet on the highway. Rough pavement can belie the sense of sophistication the rest of the car works hard to convey, but overall, the Cadenza drives about the same as any of today's good large sedans.
ADVANCED SMART CRUISE CONTROL
The 2014 Kia Cadenza offers an adaptive cruise control system that will bring the vehicle to a full stop in sync with the car ahead, and automatically start forward again if the stop was two seconds or less.
WHITE INTERIOR PACKAGE
If you spend the extra $6,000 to add the Luxury and Technology packages, you'll have the opportunity to choose a ritzy white Nappa leather interior ? free of charge.
The Cadenza's stylishly straightforward all-black dash is a big part of the car's sporty persona. Working backward, the front seats are good but not best-in-class, the rear seat is as roomy as you expect from a large sedan and the trunk is big enough to swallow an entire foursome's golf bags. The highlight, though, may be the overall sense of quality and refinement.
The 2014 Kia Cadenza is one of those un-radical designs that looks good at first, and then looks better and better as its reserved but powerful lines and subconsciously satisfying proportions work their way into your soul.
At its starting sticker price of $35,900 with destination, the 2014 Kia Cadenza includes keyless entry and pushbutton start, leather seating, an 8-inch central display, navigation, a 550-watt/12-speaker Infinity audio system with AM/FM/CD/MP3/Satellite radio, plus USB, Bluetooth and auxiliary audio connectivity. UVO eServices is also standard. In addition to a bunch of other cool infotainment capabilities ? many of them voice-activated ? Kia's next-gen UVO system leverages your smartphone to automatically call 911 in the event of an airbag deployment, and lets you send a navigation destination from your computer to the car.
A fully loaded 2014 Kia Cadenza is priced at $41,900 and includes premium-grade highlights such as smooth Nappa leather, an LCD gauge cluster, a ventilated driver's seat with extendable thigh support, Advanced Smart Cruise Control, a panoramic moonroof, and a bunch of other features you'll want to show your friends.

The Kia Forte has been totally redesigned for 2014. The 2014 Kia Forte's key strengths include its good looks, great tech and a generous warranty.
UVO ESERVICES
In addition to a bunch of other cool
infotainment capabilities, many of them voice-activated, Kia's
next-gen UVO system leverages your Bluetooth-connected smartphone to
automatically call 911 in the event of an airbag deployment, and lets
you send a navigation destination from your computer to the car.
FLEXSTEER
As
part of its new electric power steering system, the 2014 Kia Forte EX
includes a FlexSteer feature that lets the driver select between
Comfort, Normal and Sport steering modes. Comfort mode feels the least
artificial, making small corrections easier and mitigating some of the
compromise of efficiency-enhancing electric steering.
The interior of the 2014 Kia Forte is sporty and straightforward, with a heavy helping of tech and just a whiff of whimsy thanks in large part to vertical ripples in the passenger-side dash. It's all very well done. The back seat is average in size for the category, but the Forte does boast the uncommon option of heated rear seats. The trunk is among the category's roomiest, measuring almost 15 cubic feet.
Here, Kia's healthy addiction to category-first features manifests itself in power-folding exterior mirrors, puddle lamps and illuminated door-handle pockets, a collection of niceties not offered on most luxury cars in 2013.
A fully loaded 2014 Kia Forte can surpass $25,000, but with an impressive set of equipment that includes common touches like leather seats, moonroof, keyless entry and push-button start, plus unexpected touches like a heated steering wheel, ventilated driver's seat and heated rear seats. The Google-powered UVO eServices infotainment system is also among the most comprehensive systems in the segment.

Forte's safety systems help to minimize
certain injuries when a traffic accident is unavoidable. The front seats
feature active headrests and seat-belt pretensioners. Dual front airbags,
front-seat-mounted side airbags and side curtain airbags for both front and
rear seating positions are managed by an advanced sensor system. Forte wraps
all of this - and you - in a protective, high-strength steel-reinforced body.
Front Seat-Belt Pretensioners
Pretensioners have been designed to tighten the seat belts in the event of
certain collisions. This helps to reduce the likelihood of injuries.
Dual Front Seat-Mounted Side Airbags
When used with seatbelts, the Dual Front Seat-Mounted Airbags offer an
additional level of enhanced safety and can be effective at reducing injuries
from certain collisions.Â
Dual Front Advanced Airbags
When used with properly fitted seatbelts, this advanced system detects the
presence of a front seat passenger, monitors the severity of impact and
controls airbag inflation accordingly to help reduce injuries in certain
collisions.
Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH)
Lower Anchors And Tethers for Children make it easy and convenient to
secure child seats.
Front and Rear 3-Point Seat Belts
The first line of defense in safety are the seatbelts. Front and rear
3-point seat belts are an integral part of an elaborate vehicle-wide safety
system designed to help reduce the likelihood of certain injuries.
Full-Length Side Curtain Airbags
When used with properly fitted seatbelts, the Full-Length Side Curtain
Airbags offer enhanced safety to front and rear outboard occupants of both
rows.

Glance at photos of the 2014 Kia Sorento, a 7-passenger midsize crossover SUV, and it might be hard to see what's different from the 2013 model. Aside from restyled front and rear ends, and new wheel designs, it looks very similar to the 2013 model , and the difference is in the details. Under the familiar skin, 80% of the updated 2014 Sorento is, according to Kia, either redesigned or new.
Michael Sprague, executive vice president, marketing and communications, Kia Motors America, said: "With more than 80 percent of the 2014 Sorento including new or significantly redesigned parts, it's obvious that the improvements are not just skin deep."
Exterior Features
The upgrades to the 2014 Sorento start with the crossover's underlying structure, which is redesigned to yield an 18% increase in torsional stiffness, according to Kia. Front and rear styling is new for 2014, and includes LED running lights and taillights. Buyers can choose from 17-inch, 18-inch, or 19-inch aluminum wheels, depending on the trim selected.

Interior Features
Kia says the 2014 Sorento receives a redesigned instrument panel, which can accommodate the new 8-inch infotainment touch-screen display. All trim levels except the base Sorento LX are equipped with a Thin Film Transistor (TFT) center gauge display, flanked by traditional gauges.
Optional Features
The 2014 Kia Sorento is sold in LX, LX V6, EX, EX V6, SX, and SX Limited trim levels. Kia has not finalized equipment levels as this preview is written, but highlights from the available features list include fog lights, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation system, premium audio system, satellite radio, and new UVO eServices smartphone integration and telematics service. The new 2014 Sorento can also be equipped with a panoramic sunroof, programmable power liftgate, ventilated front seats, as well as second-row manual sunshades, 115-volt power inverter, and illuminated door handle pockets. Kia is also offering a new blind-spot information system for the updated 2014 Sorento.
For 2014, a new Sorento SX Limited (SXL) trim level is offered, and it includes self-leveling xenon headlights, 19-inch chrome wheels, red-painted brake calipers, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, premium headliner and roof pillar trim, and exclusive Nappa leather upholstery. The new 2014 Sorento SXLÂ is offered only in Ebony Black, Snow White Pearl and Titanium Silver paint colors.
Under the Hood
The 2014 Kia Sorento LX and EX are equipped with a direct-injection, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine generating 191 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 181 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,250 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission drives the front wheels.
A new 3.3-liter V-6 engine is optional for the LX and EX, and standard for the SX and SXL trims. It generates 290 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 252 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,200 rpm, is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and is offered with front- or all-wheel drive.
The V-6 engine is offered with an optional Torque On Demand all-wheel-drive system with Torque Vectoring Cornering Control technology. The system drives the front wheels under

The new 2014 Sorento is also offered with Flex Steer technology. Using Flex Steer, the driver can select between Comfort, Normal and Sport tuning for the Sorento's electric steering.
Technology
Kia's new UVO eServices technology, which will debut with the 2014 Sorento's arrival, includes 911 Connect service that automatically contacts a 9-1-1 operator for help when the air bags deploy. Additionally, the system offers a smartphone application that allows the Sorento's owner to download Google Maps destinations to the navigation system, check vehicle diagnostics, and to find the SUV after it has been parked.
What's New for 2013
For 2013, the Kia Soul sees just a handful of minor changes, which include newly standard Bluetooth connectivity for the manual-transmission base model, power-folding outside mirrors for the "!" trim level and revised Kia badges for all.
Introduction
The 2013 Kia Soul might be inexpensive, but this certainly doesn't mean it's cheap. Even for the entry-level model, you get solid build quality, a peppy direct-injected engine and an audio system that boasts satellite radio and an iPod hookup. Available two-tone interior color schemes, houndstooth-print upholstery and illuminated audio speakers bring welcome touches of personality not expected from cars in this price range. Furthermore, the more expensive versions of Kia's crossover offer even stronger performance.
As expected, the Soul scores well in the EPA's fuel economy testing, and an optional Eco package allows the 2.0-liter engine to achieve nearly the same mileage estimates as the 1.6-liter. The magic happens thanks to low-rolling-resistance tires and stop/start technology that automatically shuts off the engine when you come to a stoplight and restarts it as soon as you lift your foot off the brake pedal.
With such a compelling blend of style, practicality,
affordability
and features -- and let's not forget its 10-year/100,000-mile
powertrain warranty -- the 2013 Kia
Soul stands firm as one of our top
picks for a small hatchback.
Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The 2013 Kia Soul is a four-door hatchback available in three punctuation-inspired trim levels: base, + and !.
The base model's standard equipment includes 15-inch steel wheels, full power accessories, air-conditioning, a height-adjustable driver seat, cloth upholstery, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, a trip computer, Bluetooth phone connectivity and a four-speaker sound system with CD player, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack and an iPod/USB audio interface. When equipped with the optional automatic transmission, the base Soul gains keyless entry, rear privacy glass, cruise control and a height-adjustable driver seat.
The Soul+ includes all the above along with 16-inch alloy wheels (optional on base), heated mirrors, dash-top and center console storage bins, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, some faux metallic interior accents and two additional speakers. The available Audio Upgrade package adds automatic headlights, a rearview camera, the Uvo hands-free media player interface and an eight-speaker Infinity sound system with HD radio and tricolor speaker lights. The optional Eco package adds fuel-saving features like an automatic stop/start system, an upgraded battery and low-rolling-resistance tires. Also available is a sunroof bundled with foglamps.
The top-of-the-line Soul! adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, power-folding outside mirrors, upgraded headlights, foglamps, LED daytime running lights, houndstooth pattern two-tone upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and the Audio Upgrade package. Optional on the ! is a Premium package, which adds keyless ignition/entry, leather upholstery, heated front seats, automatic climatic control and a navigation system with real-time traffic and a touchscreen interface.
Powertrains and Performance
The front-wheel-drive Kia Soul is offered with two different engines. The base Soul gets a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard (including a hill-start assist function) and a six-speed automatic is optional. EPA mileage estimates stand at 25 mpg city/30 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined regardless of transmission choice.
Soul+ and ! models get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that puts out
a
healthy 164 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choices are the
same as the base model, but the Soul! is automatic only. In Edmunds
performance testing, a Soul! went from zero to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds --
a strong time for this class. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 23/28/25
with the automatic and 24/29/26 with the manual (or if equipped with
the Eco package).
Safety
Standard safety equipment for all 2013 Kia Soul models includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes, stability control, traction control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints. Hill-start assist is also now standard across the lineup.
In government crash tests, the Soul earned an overall score of four stars (out of five), with four stars for overall frontal impact protection and five stars for overall side impact protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the Soul its highest score of "Good" in its frontal offset, side-impact and roof-strength tests.
In Edmunds brake testing, a Soul! came to a stop from 60 mph in 120 feet, which is a slightly shorter than average distance for this segment.
Interior Design and Special Features
Just because the 2013 Kia Soul is long on style doesn't mean it's short on practicality. With its modern look and pronounced center stack, the passenger cabin offers a nice balance between form and function. Quality materials and a useful amount of acoustic insulation help make the interior seem refined and relatively quiet, while details like the available two-tone houndstooth upholstery give the Soul more flair than similarly priced competitors.
Gauges and controls are logically located and intuitive to use, even when you take into account high-tech options like the voice-controlled Uvo infotainment system that allows you to control your cell phone, iPod and more with voice commands. The optional Infinity audio system's illuminated trim rings for the speakers flash to the beat of the music, and it's kind of fun.
One of the benefits of the Soul's boxy design is abundant head- and legroom, even in the backseat. Behind the rear seatbacks is 19 cubic feet of cargo room, which grows to 53 cubic feet with both sections of the 60/40-split rear seatbacks folded down.Â
